Missed the 'Newborn Window'?
It’s Not Too Late for Beautiful
Vermont Baby Photos
Did You Miss the 1-2 Week Newborn Photography Window? Here’s Why It’s Not Too Late:
The first few weeks with your newborn are a blur of emotions, sleepless nights, and endless snuggles. Many parents hear that the "ideal" time for newborn photos is within the first 1-2 weeks, but what if you weren’t ready? Maybe your baby needed extra time to adjust, or you were still recovering and couldn’t imagine scheduling a session so soon. The good news? It’s never too late to capture these precious early days.
As a Vermont newborn photographer specializing in in-home, natural newborn photography, I love working with families who want to document their baby's early days in a relaxed, stress-free way—without props or highly posed setups. Whether your baby is 2 weeks, 4 weeks, or even 8 weeks old, you can still have stunning, heartfelt newborn photos that capture this fleeting season of life.
A Personal Note from Me
When I had my own babies, I wasn’t ready for photos right away. I was overwhelmed, exhausted, and just trying to adjust to this huge new life transition. I kept thinking I’d do it next week, or once things settled down a little. But time passed, and I never got around to it. And now? It’s one of my biggest regrets.
I don’t have those photos of their tiny fingers wrapped around mine, of our first days together at home, or of those sleepy, snuggly moments that felt like they’d last forever—but didn’t. That experience is a big part of why I do what I do now. I want you to have those memories, even if you didn’t feel ready in the first two weeks. Because this chapter matters, and it deserves to be remembered.

Why In-Home Newborn Photography
Works at Any Age
Unlike traditional posed newborn photography, which often requires babies to be very sleepy and flexible for curled-up poses, in-home lifestyle sessions focus on connection and storytelling. That means:
-
Your baby can be awake or asleep—we’ll capture their natural expressions either way.
-
You can hold, snuggle, and interact with your baby in your own space, creating authentic memories.
-
Older newborns (4-6 weeks) are often more alert and starting to show their personalities, which adds a whole new layer of emotion to your images.

What to Expect from a NewbornSession
at 4-6 Weeks (or Beyond)
Many parents worry that waiting a few weeks means they won’t get those dreamy, sweet newborn moments—but the truth is, every stage is beautiful. Here’s what you can expect:
🌿 More Eye Contact: Babies around 4-6 weeks old start making more eye contact, which leads to soulful, expressive photos.
🌙 Cozy Snuggles: Your baby still loves being held close, which makes for tender, intimate images of those early bonding moments.
🛌 Natural Sleep Moments: While they may not be as constantly sleepy as a 1-week-old, many older newborns still drift off for naps, allowing for those peaceful, dreamy shots.
🖐 Tiny Details: We’ll still capture those tiny fingers, toes, wisps of hair, and sweet newborn yawns—because those details change faster than you realize!

Why It’s Important to Capture
This Time—Before It’s Gone
The newborn phase is incredibly short, and before you know it, your baby will be smiling, rolling over, and growing into a new stage. The regret I hear most often from parents is not booking a session because they thought they missed their chance.
If your baby is already a few weeks old and you’ve been debating whether to do newborn photos—this is your sign to say yes! You’ll never regret having beautiful images of this stage, but you might regret letting it pass by undocumented.

"My husband and I are first time parents and we had Stephanie come to our home for our newborn’s photo session. We were strung out and exhausted, our house was kind of a mess, and we aren’t the most comfortable with having our photos taken to begin with. Stephanie was exceptional at making us feel comfortable and confident throughout the shoot. And we couldn’t be happier with the images she created of our family. She has a great eye for composition and really knows how to work with natural light. We look forward to booking more shoots with her in the coming years as our little one grows up!"
